Texas Space Commission presents to the Space Foundation Board

On Tuesday, November 11, 2025, the Texas Space Commission (TSC) held a roundtable to brief members of Space Foundation’s board on our organization, its charter as well as current initiatives and long-term goals in Houston, TX.

The session was moderated by TSC Chair Gwen Griffin, Founder & CEO of Griffin Communications, who was appointed to this role in March of 2024 by Governor Greg Abbott. Panelists included The Honorable Dr. Greg Bonnen, chair of the Texas House Committee on Appropriations and author of the legislation that established TSC in the 88th Texas legislative session in 2023; TSC Board Director and Partner at Overmatch Ventures Evan Loomis; TARSEC Executive Committee Member and Deputy Director of the Texas A&M Space Institute Rob Ambrose, PhD; and Vanessa Wych, director of NASA’s Johnson Space Center.

TSC's roundtable offered an overview of the history that led Texas legislators establishing the agency, including the increasing accessibility of space, the impact of Low Earth Orbit activities on the everyday American, and the national security implications. They then discussed the steps the TSC board has taken to align the necessary resources, people and funding in an escalated timeline in order to begin executing on the vision of leadership within one year of establishment.

The panel also reflected on lessons learned from the first year and the actions taken by TSC board and staff, culminating in a discussion on how the model established by the state could be used as a potential blueprint for other states looking to accelerate and expand their own space ecosystems.
