TX Space Commission Awards Grant to Starlab Space, LLC

Austin, TX - The Texas Space Commission (TSC) announced a Space Exploration & Aeronautics Research Fund (SEARF) grant of up to $15 million has been approved for Starlab Space, LLC regarding its System Integration Lab (SIL) and Payload Integration Lab (PIL).

The Starlab Station is designed to serve as a next-generation platform for microgravity research and development, supporting government agencies, universities, and private industry while building on the legacy of the International Space Station (ISS), which began with its first module launched in 1998. This innovative facility will integrate advanced technologies - including artificial intelligence, commercial crew and cargo services, and high-bandwidth communications - to usher in a new era of scientific discovery in zero gravity.

The project timeline is set to take place over one year. The objectives included with this grant are:

• SIL hardware and software procurement: May 2025 – February 2026;
• SIL design phase: May 2025 – February 2026;
• Lab Build-up for critical design review: May 2025 – February 2026.

These milestones are essential for defining the technical requirements and shaping the implementation plans for the SIL and PIL. The TSC funding will reimburse eligible expenditures for construction, equipment, and research and development costs.
