$9.7 million approved by Texas Space Commission for SEARF grant awards 7/25/2025
Austin, TX – Today, during an Open Meeting, the Texas Space Commission (TSC) board of directors voted to conditionally approve grant applications that total $9.7 million for three proposed projects.
- SylLab Systems, Inc., Plano - Up to $250,000
- ILC Astrospace LLC, Houston - Up to $4,494,354
- City of Midland, Midland - Up to $5,000,000
“Today’s round of awards showcases the variety of technologies, capabilities, and locations of the space industry across Texas to enable a robust ecosystem,” said Gwen Griffin, chair of the TSC board. “Each represents unique contributions to the Texas economy.”
Previously, the TSC conditionally awarded $115.9 million for 19 projects. Today’s awards bring the total to approximately $126 million for 22 projects in all. There is approximately $24 million remaining from the initial $150M appropriated by state legislators in 2023.
Major Lauren Rogers and Major Whitney Hessler provided an overview of SpaceWERX, the innovation arm of the United States Space Force (USSF). The board was briefed about funding programs that enable commercialization of priority technologies that are critical in preparing the space warfighter.

The Texas Space Commission was established in 2023 by the 88th Texas Legislature to promote innovation in the field of space operations and space flight, including the integration of civil, commercial, and military aerospace activities into the Texas economy.
