$20.7 million approved by Texas Space Commission for SEARF grant awards 4/1/2025

Austin, TX – Today, during an Open Meeting, the Texas Space Commission (TSC) board of directors voted to approve grant applications that total $20.7 million for five proposed projects.

  • West Central Texas Council of Governments; Abilene - Up to $175,000
  • FluxWorks, Inc.; Conroe - Up to $347,196
  • Axiom Space, Inc.; Houston - Up to $5,500,000
  • CesiumAstro Inc.; Austin - Up to $10,000,000
  • Aldrin Family Foundation of Texas; Southlake - Up to $4,707,457

“Great progress has been made in the past 12 months, and each of these milestone helps further the integration and growth of space, aeronautics, and aviation industries into the Texas economy,” said Gwen Griffin, chair of the TSC board.

Previously, the TSC awarded $95.3 million for 14 projects. Today's awards bring the total to $116 million for 19 projects in all. There is $34 million remaining for more awards from the Space Exploration and Aeronautics Research Fund (SEARF).

Mr. Aaron Demerson, President and CEO of the Texas Economic Development Corporation (TxEDC) gave a presentation to the board on The Power of Partnership. TxEDC is an independently funded and operated nonprofit organization responsible for marketing and promoting Texas as a premier business location. It works closely with the Governor’s Office of Economic Development and Tourism to advance Governor Abbott’s economic development agenda to build a stronger Texas.

The Texas Space Commission was established in 2023 by the 88th Texas Legislature to promote innovation in the field of space operations and commercial aerospace opportunities, including the integration of space, aeronautics, and aviation industries into the Texas economy. The total appropriation made by the Legislature for the SEARF program was $150 million.
